OMBS7/ Step into the Light

PRAYER - "Waiting For The Promise"

Just before Jesus ascended into heaven, He commanded the Apostles "that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father..." Jesus rose three days after Passover, and ascended forty days later. Pentecost is fifty days after Passover, so it appears that the Early Church prayed and fasted for about seven days in the Upper Room. They waited because the Holy Ghost was not yet given. Now, the Holy Ghost is given. There is no wait. Receive ye the Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:5 - "...ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."

PRINCIPAL - "153 Fish In The Net - More Than You Can Handle"

John recorded that they caught 153 fish in the net after obeying Jesus. Scholars have searched for centuries for some mystical or prophetic meaning in the number 153, without finding a useful interpretation. The simple lesson is that God can bless you exceedingly and abundantly if you follow His instructions.

John 21:8,11 - "The other disciples came in a little ship; ...dragging the net with fishes. ...Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken."

PRINCIPLE - "When Your Way Fails, Try His Way"

Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James and John spent the night fishing on the Sea of Galilee. They caught nothing. At daybreak, Jesus stood on the shore. The disciples did not recognize Him. "Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find." Jesus knows fishing. He also knows fishing for men. At His Word, you shall catch men.

John 21:6 - "They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes."

PROPHECY - "People Sometimes Interpret Prophecies Recklessly"

When Jesus prophesied concerning Peter's eventual death, Peter looked at John and asked Jesus, in effect, "What about him?" Jesus replied, "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?" The brethren jumped to a conclusion that John would not die. But Jesus did not say that. People still jump to conclusions and misconstrue and misinterpret Bible prophecies. Mis-quotes or mis-statements have absolutely no prophetic value.

John 21:23 - "Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?"

Step Into the Light

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

- Psalm 119:105

As long as you live by the Word of God, you never have to be in the dark again. You never have to remain in confusion about which path to take. You never have to grope blindly along, struggling to find your own way.

Isn't that great? Isn't it exciting to know that the Word of God will give you all the light you need every day of your life if you'll allow it to?

Build your faith in that Word and renew your commitment to it as you make this confession today:

"Father, in the Name of Jesus, I commit myself to walk in Your Word. I recognize that Your Word is integrity itself—steadfast, sure, eternal—and I trust my life to its provisions.

"You have sent forth Your Word forth into my heart. I let it dwell in me richly in all wisdom. It does not depart out of my mouth; I meditate in it day and night so that I may diligently act on it. Your Word is an incorruptible seed, abiding in my spirit, and it's growing mightily in me now, producing Your nature, Your life.

"I thank You, Father, that Your Word is my counsel, my shield, my buckler, my powerful weapon in battle. It is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. It makes my way straight before me, and I never stumble or fall for my steps are ordered by Your Word.

"I recognize the strategies and deceits of Satan and I put a stop to them by speaking Your Word out of my mouth in faith.

"I am confident, Father, that You are at work in me both to will and to do Your good pleasure. I exalt Your Word. I hold it in high esteem and give it first place in my life. I boldly and confidently say that my heart is fixed and established on the solid foundation—the living Word of God. Amen!"
