Prescription for Life/ OMBS7

Prescription for Life

34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

Mark 8:34-35,King James Bible

When Jesus said those words, He wasn't just giving us a prescription for getting to heaven. He was telling us how to live a superior life right here on earth.

You see, there's a high life that we can live right here, right now. But to get in on it, we have to lay down the way of life that most of us are accustomed to. We may have to let go of the very things we've been trying so hard to latch on to. We have to set our hearts instead on doing what God wants us to do.

That's what Jesus did. He didn't live His life for Himself. He lived it completely as God. He did only what the Father told Him to do—and He lived in total victory.

It's time to realize that getting born again is not something we do just to miss hell. Our purpose is to please God—to lay down our lives in order to fulfill His desires. To be His special possessions in the earth and to do whatever He tells us to do. Our top priority is to give ourselves to Him and to live in communication with Him. To spend enough time with Him that we can hear His voice and respond in obedience.

Only when we do that will we be genuinely fulfilled. Only when we do that will we be able to live the high life we've been longing for.

Moses The Intercessor

After meeting God in Sinai, Moses found Israel riotously worshipping a Golden Calf. God started to utterly destroy them, offering to make Moses a great nation instead. But Moses wanted to be blotted out of the Book of Life if God would not save Israel. That was dramatic intercession!

Exodus 32:31-32 - "Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written."

Forbidden Ornaments

This is one of the most overlooked and neglected items in the Bible. Aaron and the Children of Israel infuriated God Almighty for creating and worshipping the Golden Calf. It all began with the jewelry they brought from Egypt. After that incident, God utterly hated jewelry on His people. He demanded that they give it to Him. Read my essay on the topic, entitled "Ornaments of Jewelry," and you will see that God spoke to the issue all throughout the Bible.

Exodus 33:6 - "And the Children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb."

Face To Face With God

God punished Israel for worshipping the Golden Calf. Moses' intercession literally saved their lives. Immediately, God again promised to give them a land flowing with milk and honey. But the people were unmoved. Ultimately, it was Moses' profound relationship with God that salvaged the entire project. Israel could easily see that when Moses entered the Tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and the voice of God spoke to Moses. Remember, whole nations can depend on one man's prayers.

Exodus 33:11 - "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend."

Show Me Thy Glory

God is invisible. Three times, the Bible says, "No man hath seen God at any time." When Moses asked to see God's glory, God showed him His "back parts." That could not possibly mean God's back, buttocks or thighs. He is invisible. Moses saw God's past goodness - the Genesis story revealed! 1400 years later, Moses saw the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ on the Mount of Transfiguration.

Exodus 33:23 - "I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen."
