The Ark Of The Covenant The first item God commissioned for the Tabernacle was the Ark of the Covenant. Built of shittim wood, roughly about 4ft-L x 3ft-W x 3ft-H, overlaid with and crowned with gold. Staves permanently slid through rings on four corners for carrying by priests. The "testimony" (Ten Commandments) inside was covered by a beaten-golden "Mercy Seat" with two winged cherubims facing each other. It prefigured Jesus Christ; the embodiment and mouthpiece of everything divine. Exodus 25:22 - "...there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat." The Table Of Shewbread The second item prescribed for the Tabernacle was the Table of Shewbread, made of shittim wood and overlaid and crowned with gold. It had rings and staves so the priests could carry it when they traveled. It sat past the altar, before the golden candlestick, and ALWAYS contained a loaf of bread for each tribe of Israel. It foreshadowed Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life. God wanted us to know that there is always bread on His table. Hungry? Jesus will fill you. Exodus 25:30 - "And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway." The Golden Candlestick Jews call it the Menorah. It was a beaten-gold Candlestick with seven branches. Jesus is the Light of the World. The oil that burned in the light represents the Holy Ghost of Jesus Christ burning in the seven original New Testament Churches. Now, His Spirit fills everyone who will receive it. The Candlestick was to burn continuously. This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine. Exodus 25:37 - "Thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it." The Tabernacle Curtains And Boards God told Moses every detail of the Tabernacle, including the number of boards with their measurements, wood type, and overlayments. He defined all the curtains and coverings by material, color and measurement, and how they were to be placed. The principal colors were blue, purple and scarlet. The metals were gold and silver. The skins were goat and badger. It is inconceivable that a God of such detail doesn't care about the minutiae of our lives. Exodus 26:30 - "And thou shalt rear up the Tabernacle according to the fashion thereof which was shewed thee in the mount." We pray that you will send this too a friend. |
