A Contenders Voice        Edges

Revival this Sunday at Greater Hope, Saltillo MS.

PRAYER - "Hearken To The Voice Of Them That Contend With Me"

As soon as you take God's part, you inherit His enemies. Ask Jeremiah. They oppose you because they oppose Him. You can never overcome them alone, because they are not just flesh and blood adversaries, but principalities and powers - spiritual wickedness in high places. "Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah." When adversaries strengthen themselves against you, strengthen yourself in prayer. God will be there.

Jeremiah 18:19,23 - "Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me, ...thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me."

PRINCIPALS - "The Potter's House"

God told Jeremiah to go to the potter's house, because He would speak to him there. So he went, and the potter "wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it." God can destroy everything you are, and start over.

Jeremiah 18:6 - "O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? ...as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand."

PRINCIPLES - "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things"

It is impossible for you or me to know someone else's heart. We cannot even know our own heart. It is deceitful. A man who pursues the riches of this world while ignoring God is like a partridge sitting on eggs that never hatch. Your heart can make you trust folly and doubt wisdom. Only God can accurately search your heart and "try your reins." He will give you what is right, according to what He finds in your heart.

Jeremiah 17:9 - "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"

PROPHECIES - "IF..."

It is the biggest little word in the English language: IF. It is also the biggest little word in the Bible. So many of the prophecies that God has ever uttered are contingent on that big little word: IF. Not, "IF GOD...," but "IF YOU..."

Jeremiah 18:8,10 - "If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. ...If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them."

Here’s another Bible Study

Bethlehem - "House Of Bread"

The legacy of Bethlehem, "house of bread," began when Jacob's beloved Rachel was buried there. Elimelech and Naomi fled from there during days of apostasy and dearth. But in better days, Naomi came with Ruth and found food in the barley fields of Boaz. The whole world would find bread in the fields of Bethlehem, when Jesus Christ, the "Bread of Life," was born there - descended from his famous grandparents: Boaz and Ruth.

Ruth 1:22 - "So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, ...and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest."

Ruth And Her "Hap"

Ruth made an epic consecration to be faithful to Naomi and her God, for which she was profoundly blessed. There is no "happen-stance" with God - no accidents! When Ruth went to the fields of Boaz to glean, it was "her hap" to be there. God was scrupulously leading her to Boaz and into the bloodline of the Savior of the world.

Ruth 2:3 - "And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech."

A Message For The Gleaners

Although Naomi and Ruth were destitute in their widowhood, God had something special in store for them. His law stipulated that at harvest time, the edges of the fields should be left for the poor to glean in. Boaz carefully instructed the workers to leave plenty for Ruth. Likewise, Jesus says, "he that cometh to me shall never hunger," John 6:35.

Ruth 2:15-16 - "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not: And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not."

Boaz

The law of the kinsman-redeemer required someone near of kin to redeem a childless widow. Ruth did not know who would redeem her, how it would happen, or even IF it would happen. But her faithfulness to God was exemplary, and Boaz assured her good fortune when he pronounced the blessing of God on her in one simple prayer.

Ruth 3:10-11 - "And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: ...fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman."
