LAST DITCH EFFORT \ PRAY ON

During the course of this very day, unseen spirits, good and bad, have accompanied and watched over you and me, and in many cases, have effected our lives in profound, influential ways. #prayer

What better can a preacher do, than convince the people of their sins, and persuade them p repent? Yet some refuse to do just that. God denounced the false prophets and priests who deceived the people. "They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed."

Jeremiah 6:26 - "O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, ...for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us."

PRINCIPALS - "The Sins Of Judah Which Led To Captivity"

Jeremiah assaulted Judah's sins and backslidings: Adulteries, whoredoms, chasing women, idolatry, false gods, not seeking truth or God's ways, swearing falsely, foolishness, wickedness, getting rich and fat through deceit, rebellion, denying punishment, refusing correction or to return to the LORD, treacherous against God, not grieved when stricken, not fearing God, forsaking God, not executing judgment, trusting in their cities, laying wait, setting snares, trapping and catching men, ignoring fatherless and needy.

Jeremiah 5:29 - "Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?"

PRINCIPLES - "Be Thou Instructed, Lest I Make Thee Desolate"

Even after God irrevocably determined to send Nebuchadnezzar to capture Jerusalem, He urged the people to flee in advance. "O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, ...for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction." It was God's last-ditch effort to save them. "Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate."

Jeremiah 6:10 - "To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? ...the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it."

PROPHECIES - "Judah Sentenced To Serve Strangers In Another Land"

Their prophets prophesied falsely, and "became wind." The people loved it. God told Jeremiah, "I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them." He warned that lions, wolves and leopards would spoil the land after a mighty, ancient nation "whose language thou knowest not" [Babylon] impoverished their cities.

Jeremiah 5:19 - "Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

Plus a extra STUDY

The Day The Sun Stood Still

Five hostile kings went to war against Gibeon, who called for Joshua to bring Israel to their defense. Joshua assembled his army, and they traveled all night to the battleground. The day wore on, and Joshua asked God for more time. "Stop the SUN!" God did! God can answer bold prayers.

Joshua 10:12-13 - "Then spake Joshua to the LORD... and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies."

When God Obeyed A Man

It does not matter how God made the sun and moon stand still for Joshua, nor that some scientists refute that it ever happened. This epic event is eclipsed by the fact that God obeyed the voice of a man. The CEV version says, "Never before and never since has the LORD done anything like that for someone who prayed." Your problems are no problem for God. Pray on.

Joshua 10:14 - "And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto [obeyed] the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel."

Divine Prerogative

God did not send Israel to kill good and godly people. God chose their enemies by His own criteria. God sovereignly chooses heathen who have incriminated themselves before giving their place to the righteous. God knows the future of saints and sinners, and as Creator, has divine prerogative to take away from one and give to another.

Joshua 11:20 - "...it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses."

The Divine Premise Of Possessing The Land

The premise upon which the nation of Israel is founded is God's jealousy over the world He created and His sore displeasure with the sins of heathen nations. God is not arbitrarily prejudiced against any nation, but He certainly hates their worship of false gods, their idolatries, their moral depravities, and more. God does not owe anyone apologies for saying to Joshua and Israel, in effect, "Take this land." It is His land.

Joshua 12:7,24 - "...these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote... all the kings thirty and one."
